OCR & Translation
Preparing files for translation
This is a fundamental stage that precedes the actual translation. Official documents are often presented in PDF or image format and have a complex and demanding layout that requires excellent mastery and a lot of experience with MS Word. The preparation of the Word file must be optimized for translation and for the translation tool, so that the translation is fast, error-free and consistent. The most common problems with these documents are the following: compromised/difficult readability, handwritten text, overlapping text, text presented vertically and/or in circular form, misaligned text, stamps and seals with text inside, presence of more than one language and/or different fonts, watermarks, problematic tables with symbols inside the cells, file protected against editing (OCR does not work).
Transcription & Translation
Transcription/typing of handwritten texts
Transcription consists of transcribing the handwritten text that appears in older official texts, usually from notaries and registry offices, among other bodies, using speech recognition technology in the language of the source text. To understand this text, which is usually very cursive, it is usually needed to consult the other complementary documents that are part of the set to be translated (if they exist) in order to decipher the handwriting. Once this step is complete, the document can be translated.
Notary certification
Authentication of the translation before a Notary
Visit a notary to certify the document. In Portugal, there is no sworn translator, so translation certificates must be issued by a notary or lawyer who issues a certificate with the translator's details and signature, thus making the translator responsible for the translation. The price of the service includes translation, notary certification, travel and postal costs (national delivery, if applicable).
IMPORTANT NOTE: The price of the certificate is per document and the price of the translation is per budget (on request).
